1. How can I become a COMP Workshop Leader for my district or state?
Becoming a COMP Workshop Leader requires a combination of (1) content knowledge, (2) hands-on experience (gained through a COMP Level One Workshop), and (3) process skills (gained through a COMP Level Two Workshop).
(1) Content: The person would first go through the first days of a Level One COMP Teachers' Workshop, learn the content, and make personalized written plans of how to apply ideas and concepts.
(2) Application: The person would then apply ideas and concepts from COMP either in the classroom (if a teacher) or select a teacher and mentor that teacher with COMP ideas and concepts (if an administrator), and then return for a follow-up day to discuss what worked (and what didn't).
(3) Process: The person would next complete the Level Two COMP Training of Workshop Leaders, where he or she would process each of the eight modules and study ways of communicating COMP content and of engaging teachers in activities in each module that result in positive classroom change. Each person would conclude his/her training by demonstrating skills in processing a part of a module.
2. Can I skip the Level I Workshop & just review the manual in order to prepare for a Level II Workshop?
No. Our research shows that trainers who have not experienced a Level I workshop have difficulty conceptualizing and applying the variety of teaching techniques necessary to be an effective COMP Workshop Leader. 3. How many participants are there in each level of workshop?
Level I workshops can have a maximum of 30 participants.
Level II workshops can have a maximum of 12 participants. 4. How do I find a local Workshop Leader to conduct a session for my school or district?
Call the COMP office at (615) 322-8050 or
us to inquire about Workshop Leaders in your area. If there are no local contacts, there are several Workshop Leaders who travel throughout the year. Our office will facilitate any arrangements you may need.
5. How long are the workshops?
Level I workshops require 18 - 24 contact hours. These hours can be configured within a few days, or spread out over an entire school year.
Level II workshops require 25 hours spread out over 5 days.
6. Do I have to participate in a COMP Workshop to receive a manual?
No. Interested teachers or administrators may purchase either a COMP: Creating Conditions for Learning Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten Level manual, a COMP: Creating Conditions for Learning Elementary Level manual or a COMP: Creating Conditions for Learning Middle School/High School Level manual directly from our office. Purchases are limited to one manual. We invite interested parties to create a profile by visiting our COMP Online page and ordering online. |
